An ingrown toenail is a painful condition that occurs when the edge of the nail grows into the surrounding skin. This irritation of the soft tissue often results in continuous inflammation. As the condition worsens, it causes redness, swelling, and sometimes pus discharge due to infection.

The discomfort can be severe, making it difficult to walk or wear tight shoes. Daily activities become challenging, and the pain can significantly affect your quality of life. Ingrown toenails most commonly affect the big toe and require proper care to prevent further complications.

Is there a permanent solution for an ingrown toenail?

In Nepal at Glow Skin and Dental Clinic, we offer a lasting cure for ingrown toenails. We are pleased to improve the client’s quality of life by relieving the pain and discomfort caused by an ingrown toenail and offering a long-term cure.

What treatment options are available for an ingrown toenail?

Depending on the stage of the ingrown toenail, treatment options include conservative methods or surgery.

Conservative treatment is preferable for those who have occasional pain, slight pain when wearing tight shoes, or when applying gentle pressure. You can control at the early stage by cutting the nails as straight as possible and gently lifting the edge of the nail with a dull metal tool such as a nail file, or by keeping a cotton wick into the nail’s edges to prevent it from penetrating the tissue.

You can choose surgical treatment for ingrown toenails as soon as they start and before they interfere with your daily activities. Surgical treatment is a preferable alternative for patients who experience chronic pain, swelling, and discomfort that limits their daily activities.

What is the surgical procedure for treating an ingrown toenail?

There are different types of surgery available for removing an ingrown toenail removal. At Glow skin and dental clinic, we do Partial ingrown toenail removal with chemical matriectomy.

What is partial ingrown toenail removal with chemical matriectomy?

It is a surgical procedure performed using local anesthetic. During the surgery, only a portion of the ingrown nail is surgically removed, and then medical grade acid is applied to the nail folds to prevent it from growing again. The entire surgery is done with minimal blood loss.

Is the surgery painful?

While administering local anesthesia, there will be slight pain at the beginning of the treatment. You will not feel any discomfort after the local anesthesia has taken effect, but you will be aware of what is going on. We talk and brief the client as we go through the operation. The entire process is carried out comfortably.

What will recovery look like?

The post-procedure recovery is good, with only moderate pain and stiffness. You will be able to walk around on the same day, although we recommend resting for one or two days following the treatment.

What preparations should you do before the surgery?

On the day of operation, we recommend that you bring a companion and wear slippers or flipflops.
